Praise the Strength Behind the Superman

Praise Pillar Focus - Sometimes Appreciation Grows in Absence

This week I learned that my Superman's greatest superpower isn't what he does for our family, it's knowing where his strength comes from. Last week, Bill was out of town helping his family. Of course, I missed him. But what surprised me most wasn't how much I missed his companionship. It was how much I missed everything he does.

You see, Bill is the primary "nanny" in our household. Living with my daughter and grandchildren has been a blessing, but it also comes with a lot of responsibilities.

And while Bill was gone, many of those responsibilities suddenly became mine.

Let's just say...

I gained a whole new level of appreciation.

Walking in His Shoes

There are some things you can understand intellectually. And then there are things you understand because you actually have to do them. For a week, I stepped into many of the roles Bill quietly fills every day. The constant interruptions. The needs that never seem to stop. The endless tasks that keep a household running. By the end of the week, I found myself thinking: How does he do this every day?

I already knew Bill was amazing. Now I had proof.

😄 My Superman

When Bill finally walked through the door last night, I was so happy to see him. Partly because I missed him. And partly because, My Superman had returned. Now before Bill gets too excited reading this blog, let me clarify:

He's still human. And he still occasionally forgets things I consider important. But after a week in his shoes, I realized how much of our family's daily life is held together by his faithful service.

One of the pillars in Pamper Your Marriage is Praise. Not flattery. Not pretending your spouse is perfect. But intentionally recognizing and acknowledging the good in them. Sometimes we become so accustomed to someone's faithfulness that we stop noticing it.

We expect it.

We assume it.

We overlook it.

Until it's gone for a week.

Then suddenly we realize how much we've been receiving all along.

What a comfort to know that even when others overlook our efforts, God never does.

And as husbands and wives, we have the opportunity to reflect His heart by noticing and appreciating one another.

This week, ask yourself:

What does my spouse do so consistently that I've stopped noticing it?

Then tell them.

Not tomorrow.

Not next week.

Today.

Because appreciation has a way of breathing life into a marriage.

Bill left town for a week to help his family. He came home with the same suitcase he left with. But I think I welcomed him home with something even better. A deeper appreciation.

Sometimes distance doesn't weaken gratitude. Sometimes it reveals it.

And after walking in his shoes for a few days, I've come to one conclusion:

My husband may not wear a cape...

But he's definitely my superhero.

Your marriage doesn't have to be perfect. It just needs to be pampered. ❤️
