When God Reveals the Path

The Meditation Pillar in Marriage
Last week, I shared how Bill and I discovered something powerful while reading Hebrews 4 that rest is the first step. It was exactly what we needed in that moment—to stop striving and trust God before trying to figure anything out. But what we didn’t realize at the time was… that was just the beginning.
Bill and I have been talking a lot about the vision God has placed on our hearts. I can see it clearly. I can feel it. I believe it’s from God. But for a while, I kept saying, “I see the vision… I just don’t see the path.” And in the most steady and faithful way, Bill wrote in his journal that he was asking God to show him the path to my mountaintop vision. That meant so much to me—but it also stirred something deeper. I told him, “I don’t just need you to follow me… I need us to see the path together.”
And that’s when God began to answer. Not all at once. Not with a full blueprint. But one chapter at a time. As we continued reading through Hebrews, we realized God wasn’t just giving us Scripture… He was giving us direction.
He began by preparing us. In the chapters that followed, we were reminded that before God positions us, He grows us. He matures us. He teaches us to follow the example of those who have gone before us and to align our lives with His ways. It wasn’t about rushing toward the vision—it was about becoming who we needed to be to carry it. Then we came to Hebrews 8, and one verse stopped us in our tracks: “Follow the pattern shown on the mountain.”
And suddenly it all made sense.
The vision came from the mountain… so the pattern must come from the mountain too.
We don’t create the path. We don’t figure it out on our own. We receive it from God. And just when we thought we needed our next step, Hebrews 9 took us even deeper—not by giving us something to do, but by reminding us of something already done. Jesus had already made the way. We are not striving to build something for God; we are walking in something that has already been secured through Him.
By the time we reached Hebrews 10, the message became even clearer. These were the verses that settled into our hearts: “Do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised.” And that’s where we are now. Not striving. Not forcing. Not trying to map out every detail. But holding onto what God has already spoken… and persevering together.
This is what the Meditation pillar has come alive to mean for us. It’s not just reading Scripture—it’s slowing down long enough to let God speak through it. It’s noticing what He highlights, sitting with it, and allowing Him to connect the pieces over time.
We didn’t go searching for a roadmap. We found it by sitting in His Word.
And this is how the Lord pampers His Church—He doesn’t overwhelm us with the whole plan. He gently reveals what we need, when we need it, in a way our hearts can receive. Step by step, He leads us. So if you find yourself in a place where you can see the vision but not the path, take heart. Keep showing up. Keep reading. Keep listening. Keep trusting. Because God doesn’t always hand you the full picture. He reveals it as you walk with Him.
And when He does… it will be exactly what you need.
Your marriage doesn’t have to be perfect. It just needs to be pampered.
