Meditation Pillar

This week Bill and I had a little fun with one of those AI photo filters that transformed us into a colonial couple living in early Maryland. We both laughed at how realistic it looked. For a moment, it felt like we had stepped back into history. But after the laughter, I found myself thinking...
Every generation has faced challenges in marriage.
The clothing has changed. The technology has changed. The distractions have changed.
But the heart of marriage has not. Long before smartphones, social media, overflowing calendars, and endless responsibilities, husbands and wives still had to choose one another. They still had to communicate, forgive, serve, and remain faithful through life's seasons. That's when I realized this picture wasn't just a fun keepsake. It was a reminder that Bill and I are part of a much bigger story.
In Pamper Your Marriage, we talk about the Meditation pillar. Many people think meditation simply means sitting quietly, but biblical meditation is much more than that. It is intentionally filling our minds with God's truth and remembering His faithfulness.
When we meditate, we remember who God is. We remember the covenant we made.
We remember why we fell in love. And we remember that our marriage is one small chapter in the beautiful story God has been writing since the beginning of time.
Sometimes the pressures of everyday life can make us forget that. We become so focused on schedules, bills, work, ministry, and responsibilities that we lose sight of the privilege of simply walking through life together.
This picture reminded me that one day Bill and I will simply become part of history too.
The question isn't whether people will remember our names. The question is whether our marriage reflected Christ. Will our children and grandchildren remember two people who loved each other well? Will they remember two people who served the Lord side by side? Will they remember a couple who continued choosing one another, even when life became busy?
Those are the thoughts worth meditating on.
The writer of Psalm 143:5 said,
"I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Your works; I muse on the work of Your hands."
Remembering has a way of resetting our hearts.
As I looked at this funny picture of us dressed in colonial clothing, I couldn't help but thank God for the story He has been writing in our marriage over the last fifteen, almost sixteen years. He has been faithful through every chapter, and I trust Him with the chapters still to come.
Whether we're dressed in eighteenth-century clothing or blue jeans, our greatest calling remains the same to, glorify God through the way we love one another. If you're reading this today, take a few moments to remember. Remember God's faithfulness. Remember why you chose your spouse. Remember the story you're part of.
Because healthy marriages don't just happen accidentally, they grow as we intentionally fix our minds on what matters most.
And remember this your marriage does not need to be perfect, it just needs to be pampered.
