Praise Before the Path Is Clear

The Power of Building Each Other Up
As Bill and I continue seeking God for the path to the mountaintop vision He’s placed in our hearts, we have realized something important…
Even when the path isn’t clear, there is always something to praise.

We don’t fully see where God is leading yet. We have seen glimpses. We have felt confirmation. We have taken steps. But the full picture? Not yet.
And in this space, we have a choice:
We can grow frustrated…Or we can grow grateful. So we have been choosing to praise God anyway. Thanking Him for what He’s already done. Trusting Him for what He’s going to do. Believing that even when we don’t see the path…
He does.
In Pamper Your Marriage, the Praise pillar is all about using our words to build each other up—not tear each other down. Because words matter.
They can:
bring life
bring encouragement
bring healing
Or…
They can do the opposite.
And if we’re honest, it takes intentional effort to focus on the good.
I thank God for Bill every single day.
He is such a blessing to me…to our family…and to everyone around him.
He is steady. Faithful. Supportive.
The kind of man who quietly shows up again and again. And I don’t ever want to take that for granted.
Now… if I can be just a little honest (and maybe a little funny 😉)
Bill is AMAZING at showing love through his actions. But when it comes to saying it out loud?
Let’s just say…
I know he thinks highly of me…
I just sometimes wish he would say it more often 😄
Praise looks different for everyone. That’s something we’ve had to learn in marriage:
We don’t always express love the same way.
Some people:
say it
some show it
some write it
some live it quietly
And part of growing together is learning how your spouse naturally expresses love and how to stretch toward what your spouse needs. Because while I see his love in what he does, there’s something special about hearing it too.
The Lord pampers His Church through His words. He speaks life over us.
He calls us:
chosen
loved
redeemed
His own
He doesn’t stay silent about how He feels toward us.
And when we praise our spouse, we reflect that same heart.
Practical Ways to Praise Each Other
If you’re not sure where to start, try this:
Say it out loud - “I appreciate you for…”
Write it down - A simple note can go a long way
Send a text - Encouragement in the middle of the day
Say it in front of others - Public praise builds deep confidence
Thank God for them - Even if you don’t say it to them yet—start there
Ask each other:
• Do I feel appreciated by you?
• How do I best receive encouragement?
• What is one thing you can praise me for today?
These conversations may feel simple, but they are powerful.
You may not see the full path yet…
But you can still:
Praise God. Praise your spouse. Praise what He is building.
Because sometimes…
Praise is what keeps your heart steady while God reveals the next step.
Your marriage doesn’t have to be perfect. It just needs to be pampered.
